A Story from the Pony's Perspective
|
In addition to Pontus's lively story-- told from his perspective-- this wonderful introduction to horsemanship for young horse lovers features charming, detailed illustrations and definitions of everything from equipment and anatomy to horse breeds.
Pontus the pony is always ready for adventure. He loves to run away from his trainer and go exploring in the woods. But as he gets older, he faces challenges, too, including weathering a bad winter cold, wearing a saddle and a bit, and learning to obey a rider's commands. He tells about the "girl with the yellow mane" who takes care of him, the stable where he lives, the training he undergoes, and the other horses who share his barn. There is a great deal of information included in the fictional story. Readers are introduced to many breeds, the different parts of a horse, the equipment needed, and terminology used in shows. The detailed watercolor illustrations add charm to the story and are educational as well..
