August 2007
The hot, lazy days of summer remind me
of summer vacations and spending lots of time with my ponies when
I was a kid growing up in NJ. One of the highlights of those summers was
competing in the horse show at the local county fair and
subsequently

qualifying and attending the NJ state fair. Things
haven't changed much and there're still lots of fairs around the
country where young people are having fun, competing in many
disciplines at all levels. I still
remember my first blue ribbon won at the county fair, decades
ago, so I'm sure there were lots of lasting memories made this
summer as well. We'd love to hear about ponies at all the fairs,
so continue to send us your news and photos! Sally Steinmetz

1000 AVCA certified doctors worldwide. Many of Dr. Leah's amazing success stories
confirm that animals can live a higher quality of life with
chiropractic adjustments. She's helped
several paralyzed dogs walk again and has assisted numerous horses and
dogs to return to the show ring. Chiropractic is the science,
art and philosophy of correcting spinal misalignments to
increase the range of motion, flexibility and overall health.
Dr. Leah commented that "In my experience, the majority of the
animals I work with enjoy getting adjusted. I notice that they
relax when they sense you are there to help them and make them
feel better."

Fox Cry Nicodemus - A Promising Sire and Dressage Pony
Fox Cry Nicodemus, a young Section B stallion, is making quite a
name for himself this year as both a sire and a future dressage pony.
Nicodemus (Nick) is owned by Shawn Bigley,
Westwood Welsh Ponies, Colora MD and is by
Halcyon Sir
Lancelot and out of Fox Cry Raindrops on Roses.
For the past two years Nick was shown very successfully in hand
and won major awards at prestigious shows such as Dressage at
Devon. He also received the Born in the USA award (the highest
scoring colt born in the US) at the Stone Tavern Dressage show
in 2006. His first crop of foals, born this year, are stunning
- he shows great promise as a sire. Nick is currently in
training with Elly Schobel,
The Homestedt in Williston, SC preparing for his ASPR
stallion inspection. Elly wrote, "Shawn and I became fast friends and often talked about Nick's future. I told Shawn,
that I would start him under saddle for her and prepare him for his ASPR Stallion Inspection. In April 2007 Nick
arrived at our farm in South Carolina and life, as we knew it, has never been the same!
Nicodemus is an extraordinary athlete, equipped with a keen mind and a level of confidence I have rarely experienced.
Saddle, bridle, rider - nothing phased

him - nothing! On our first hack, we came across a 4 foot long rattle snake - I almost fainted, but
Nick just stepped to the side and kept walking. Our herd of rescued dogs loves to play in the dressage ring
while we ride - Nick's favorite game is to aim for one of them, speed up and see if we can 'bump' into the dog,
or just jump it ! One of my working students is from Sweden and rode dressage ponies competitively -
she said one day, that if Nick was 16.2 hands, he would be the perfect horse. I, for one, get a kick out of
riding the perfect 12 hands stallion! Watch for us at Dressage at Devon 2007 in-hand and under saddle,
as well in the Get of sire class."
